Orthopedic surgeons at Rush University Medical Center pioneered the minimally invasive hip surgery and specialize in minimally invasive techniques that enable patients to return home within a day. Rush's orthopedic program includes the Rush Cartilage Restoration Center, the Center for Limb Preservation — the only program of its kind in the Midwest — the Orthopedic Cancer and Transplant Program, the Spine and Back Center and the Women's Sports Medicine program, among other offerings. Rush was ranked one of the best hospitals for orthopedics for 2014-15 by U.S. News & World Report. The hospital is a Blue Distinction Center Plus for both knee and hip replacements and spine surgery, and it is designated as a Magnet hospital for nursing excellence by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
