Mount Sinai Hospital established the Tisch Cancer Institute, a National Cancer Institute-designated cancer center, in 2008 through a grant from James S. and Merryl Tisch. In 2016, Tisch Cancer Institute joined three other cancer centers to establish a research consortium focused on accelerating the discovery and development of novel cancer therapeutics and diagnostics. More than 55 researchers and physician drive Tisch's cancer research initiatives. U.S. News & World Report ranked Mount Sinai Hospital among the top 50 hospitals in the country for cancer care in 2017-18.
