St. Francis Hospital (Roslyn, N.Y.). In 1922, St. Francis Hospital was founded by the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary as New York state's only specialty designated cardiac center. Today, the hospital provides an array of specialties in cardiac care as well as noncardiac programs, including vascular, prostate, otolaryngology, orthopedic and general surgery.
St. Francis was ranked within the top 50 hospitals in the country by U.S. News & World Report in five specialties for 2014-15 — cardiology and heart surgery, gastroenterology and GI surgery, geriatrics, neurology and neurosurgery, and orthopedics. U.S. News & World Report also ranked St. Francis No. 4 in New York state. In the past 10 years, the Magnet-designated hospital has seen more than 123,000 cardiac catheterizations, 34,000 angioplasties, and more than 15,000 open-heart surgeries.
Since 1992, St. Francis has had the largest cardiac surgical volume in the state and has been recognized for its outstanding success rates by the New York State Department of Health more times than any other hospital in the New York metropolitan area. The hospital boasts the largest medically staffed cardiac fitness and rehabilitation program on Long Island. Sitting at the helm of St. Francis is President and CEO Alan D. Guerci, MD.
