Lahey Hospital and Medical Center (Burlington, Mass.). Lahey Hospital and Medical Center dates back to 1923, when Frank Lahey, MD, founded a group practice that — with several specialties under one roof — was considered unconventional at the time. Dr. Lahey would later become known one of the greatest influences on American medicine, thanks in part to the model's success.

Today, Lahey Hospital and Medical Center is the 317-bed teaching hospital for Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston, training hundreds of medical students, residents and fellows. Lahey Hospital and Medical Center also emphasizes translational research and clinical trials, offering more than 300 of the latter at any given time. The hospital has dedicated labs for bench-to-bedside research, where physicians and researchers collaborate on biology, infectious disease, and tissue engineering and regeneration.

Lahey Hospital and Medical Center's campus also encompasses an ambulatory care center serving more than 3,000 patients each day and a Level II trauma center. The hospital, which includes more than 500 physicians, was ranked as one of the top five hospitals in Massachusetts by U.S. News & World Report in 2013-14. It also earned several awards from Healthgrades for 2014, including those for excellence in general surgery, stroke care cardiac care and surgery, and overall clinical excellence.
