Two healthcare professional groups have launched an international competition to raise awareness about the patient care technician role among students and strengthen the future talent pipeline.
The National Healthcareer Association, a healthcare certification agency, and HOSA-Future Health Professionals, an international career and technical student organization, have partnered on the initiative.
The competition's first round will consist of a 50-question multiple-choice test covering patient care, infection control, phlebotomy and electrocardiogram administration. The second round will include a hands-on skill assessment.
HOSA members will compete in local or regional contests this fall, with state-level competitions scheduled for spring 2025 across 47 states, Washington, D.C., American Samoa, Canada, China and Puerto Rico, according to Sept. 25 news release.
The competition's final round will be held in June 2025 at HOSA's International Leadership Conference in Nashville, Tenn.
