3 trends that will shape the state of work in 2024, per LinkedIn

Artificial intelligence isn't the only trend set to shape the landscape of work in 2024. Hybrid work and green hiring are other key trends that will be prevalent next year, an expert from LinkedIn told Fortune in a Dec. 24 report.

AI

In the past two years, global job posts mentioning AI have more than doubled. Overall, there's been a 70% jump in LinkedIn posts that make mention of AI in the past year. Furthermore, job posts that mention AI saw higher application growth relative to listings that didn't mention the technology.

"It’s clear that AI will continue to accelerate workplace change in 2024, and we will see business leaders not just implementing the technology to improve productivity and remove some of the drudgery from day-to-day work, but also figuring out how to equip their workforce with the skills they will need to make the most of these advancements," Olivier Sabella, vice president of EMEA and LATAM talent solutions at LinkedIn, told the news outlet.

Hybrid work

The availability of hybrid roles has grown globally throughout the year, a trend that stands in contrast to CEO predictions that a full return-to-office will occur within three years.

"We will see this trend persist in 2024 as companies continue to move to hybrid options as a way of balancing employees' demand for increased flexibility with employers' desire for office attendance," Mr. Sabella told Fortune

Green hiring

As more companies look to reduce emissions and harm to the environment, data suggests hiring for "green" jobs will continue to increase in the coming years.

However, there's a supply and demand gap when it comes to workers who are skilled in this realm. For instance, LinkedIn data shows only 1 in 8 workers globally are skilled in areas such as environmental science and ecodesign.

"As green hiring continues to rise in 2024, there are actions businesses can take to grow the green labor markets," Mr. Sabella said. "This includes businesses having an in-depth understanding of the skills their workforce needs to implement tailored and targeted reskilling programs."
