Healthcare is projected to add about 1.9 million new jobs and see employment in industry professions grow 14 percent between 2018 and 2028, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Here is the bureau's projected job growth in 10 healthcare professions over the period:
1. Physician assistants – 31 percent
2. Nurse anesthetists, nurse midwives and nurse practitioners – 26 percent
3. Medical assistants – 23 percent
4. Phlebotomists – 23 percent
5. Respiratory therapists – 21 percent
6. Registered nurses – 12 percent
7. Licensed practical and licensed vocational nurses – 11 percent
8. Clinical laboratory technologists and technicians – 11 percent
9. Nursing assistants and orderlies – 9 percent
10. Physicians and surgeons – 7 percent
