A startup website is connecting nurses with the patients and families who need them, according to a report in The Boston Globe.
Here are six things to know about the website.
1. The website, called HireNurses.com, was founded by nurse practitioner Rebecca Love, RN, MSN.
2. Intended to "redefine nursing; one nurse, one life, one community at a time," HireNurses.com provides a platform to connect nurses to families in need of home care for an aging parent, disabled spouse or sick child, and to hospitals or home care agencies that need nursing help, according to the report.
3. The website includes an internal messaging and account system, which gives providers and families the ability to keep track of and make personal notes on jobs and nurses they viewed, according to HireNurses.com. Its other features include the ability for nurses to upload and store their nursing documents, such as their resume.
4. Ms. Love, who teaches nursing at Bunker Hill Community College in Charlestown, Mass., conceived the idea for HireNurses.com in 2013 after she saw another group of her recent nursing graduates struggle to find jobs. Around that same time, the family of one of her hospice patients decided to place their loved one in a nursing home, after they were unable to find a nurse to help care for their loved one in their home.
5. According to The Boston Globe, HireNurses.com charges families a monthly fee of $40 to post openings and hospitals, agencies and other businesses a monthly fee of $149. The service is free for nurses.
6. Ms. Love estimated the website has matched at least 100 nurses with families and other employers. HireNurses.com currently lists about 500 jobs.
