This summer, Sacramento, Calif.-based Sutter Health will deploy the world's first wireless, wearable Doppler ultrasound device, according to a July 23 news release.
The FDA-approved device, FloPatch, examines blood flow in the carotid arteries and transmits the information to a secure iOS device. The manufacturer, Flosonics Medical, said the patch offers greater precision in intravenous fluid management compared to other blood flow and heart function measurement products.
For every 10 FloPatches used, a recently published study showed 4 in 5 patients will avoid potentially dangerous fluid overload in the emergency department, the release said.
Sutter clinicians will soon use the patch at the system's Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley, Calif., and the California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco at its Van Ness, Davies and Mission Bernal campuses.
