At least 60 million syringes and infusion pumps are in turmoil as the FDA investigates China-made plastic syringes that changed dimensions.
On Nov. 30, the FDA warned healthcare workers to avoid plastic syringes made in China after several manufacturers changed syringe dimensions, which the agency said is causing leaks and breakage.
In the two weeks prior to the FDA's warning, U.S. medical devicemakers issued warnings about their syringe infusion pumps having compatibility issues with modified syringes, including 32 million Cardinal Health syringes that have different dimensions than older brands.
