The Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response has partnered with SLI Medical to ship 41,000 cases of IV fluids to the U.S. to help mitigate an ongoing shortage exacerbated by disruptions at a Baxter plant in North Carolina.
The shipment, set to arrive from South Korea, will be airlifted by SLI Medical on Dec. 9, according to a Dec. 5 news release shared with Becker's.
The effort is a part of the federal government's response to hurricane-related disruptions in the IV fluid supply chain. Depending on demand, airlift capacity can expand to 21,000 cases per week.
The airlift follows similar shipments in October and November from Baxter international facilities, which were facilitated by the FDA to address gaps in the supply.
