Salt Lake City-based Intermountain Healthcare officially changed its name to Intermountain Health on Jan. 23.
The name change reflects "an added emphasis on keeping people healthy, as well as continuing to provide world-class medical care at its hospitals and clinics," according to a health system news release.
In September, the 33-hospital organization announced the name change and that it would take effect in 2023. That announcement came about one month after the health system announced the departure of Marc Harrison, MD. Dr. Harrison, who became president and CEO of the health system in 2016, accepted a role to run a healthcare platform business for General Catalyst. Lydia Jumonville, who served as president and CEO of Broomfield, Colo.-based SCL Health before the organization merged with Intermountain Health in April, served as interim president and CEO of Intermountain Health until Rob Allen was selected as the health system's permanent leader in November.
Now that the name change is official, Intermountain Health has updated its logo to reflect the new name, the health system said.
"The name change is effective immediately, but the updated look will gradually be phased in over the next several years," Intermountain Health added. "Some of the more noticeable early changes will occur on Intermountain Health's websites and with digital tools available to patients and the community."
