Mayo Clinic, Kaiser among top employers for disability inclusion

Three U.S. health systems received perfect scores on an index rating companies on creating inclusive workplaces for people with disabilities.

Dallas-based Baylor Scott & White Health; Oakland, Calif.-based Kaiser Permanente; and Rochester, Minn.-based Mayo Clinic were all top-scoring healthcare companies on this year's Disability Equality Index, which recognized 126 companies for prioritizing the inclusion of employees with disabilities and honored them as best places to work for disability inclusion.

The participants are leaders in 25 business sectors.

The index is an initiative between the American Association of People with Disabilities and the U.S. Business Leadership Network. Advocates for people with disabilities and business leaders designed the index to be a comprehensive benchmarking tool for the inclusion of people with disabilities.

The index scores companies on performance indicators in organizational culture, leadership, accessibility, employment, community engagement, support services and supplier diversity.

Healthcare companies also included those in health insurance, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, medical device developers and more.
