European cities triumphed as having the best work-life balance in the world in 2022, while American cities like New York and Los Angeles slid down the rankings, according to a new survey from Kisi, a security technology company.
To evaluate work-life balance, intensity of work including access to remote work, social support offered and affordability and livability were taken into consideration. Nordic countries and Switzerland came out on top for best work-life balance whereas the UAE, Hong Kong and Malaysia had the most overworked cities.
The top American cities on the list were Seattle at No. 32, Portland, Ore., at No. 33, and Minneapolis at No. 35. New York slid down the list from No. 38 in 2021 to No. 59 in 2022, and Los Angeles sat at No. 78, down from No. 46 in 2021.
