10 most, least educated metro areas

The most educated city in the U.S. is located in the Midwest, according to WalletHub, a personal finance website.

WalletHub compared the 150 largest metropolitan statistical areas in the U.S. on 11 metrics related to education, including how much schooling adults over age 25 have completed, the quality of education and disparities in education.

Based on these rankings, here are the five most educated metro areas in the U.S.: 

  1. Ann Arbor, Mich.
  2. San Jose-Sunnyvale-Santa Clara, Calif.
  3. Washington, D.C.-Arlington,Va.-Alexandria, Va.
  4. Durham-Chapel Hill, N.C.
  5. Madison, Wis.

Here are the five least educated metro areas:

  1. Visalia-Porterville, Calif.
  2. Brownsville-Harlingen, Texas
  3. McAllen-Edinburg-Mission, Texas
  4. Bakersfield, Calif.
  5. Modesto, Calif.
  6. Salinas, Calif.
