Sixty percent of radiologists would take a pay cut for better work-life balance, a Medscape report found.
The 2024 "Medscape Radiologist Lifestyle & Happiness Report" surveyed 9,226 respondents across more than 29 specialties between July 5 and Oct. 9, 2023.
Here are six things to know about radiologist health and lifestyle habits:
- Forty-five percent of radiologists take more than six weeks of vacation every year, and 71% of radiologists said vacations are very important to their happiness and mental health.
- Regarding spouses of radiologists, 27% said their spouse works as a physician, 22% said their spouse works in the healthcare field and 52% said their partner does not work in healthcare.
- Radiologists ranked third to last for specialties with the happiest marriages. Seventy-nine percent of radiologists said their marriage was very good or good, compared to pulmonary medicine, which had the highest rate for happy marriages at 91%.
- About 54% of radiologists said they use the internet at least two hours a day for work.
- Sixty-five percent of radiologists said family and personal time was very important to them.
- Radiologists maintain their happiness and mental health through spending time with family and friends (80%), activities and hobbies they enjoy (72%) and exercise (66%).
