The World Health Organization has declared the Ebola epidemic in West Africa an international health emergency and appealed for global aid, according to a Yahoo News report.
The decision came after a meeting of the WHO's emergency committee. It called upon countries around the world to be prepared for Ebola cases if they arise as well as urged screening of all people flying out of affected countries.
States of emergency have been declared in the hardest hit countries of Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone.
U.S. hospitals have also started preparing. The CDC has issued recommended infection control practices for other hospitals that may have to treat a patient infected with the Ebola virus.
