WHO declares Liberia Ebola-free

The World Health Organization declared Liberia free of the Ebola virus for the second time this year on Thursday, according to a CNN report.

Liberia is one of three West African nations where the outbreak was centered. Although six cases were reported in the country in late June to July, it has been 42 days since the last infected person tested clear for the disease, which represents two maximum incubation periods for Ebola.

The first case in the country was reported in March 2014. Since then, more than 4,800 of the 10,666 confirmed cases were fatal, according to the CNN report. Overall, the virus' hold on the region seems to be dwindling, with only one new case reported in Sierra Leone in the last two weeks
