There are 2,722 Zika case in the United States as of Aug. 31, spread throughout every state except Alaska and Wyoming. While Florida is the only state with locally acquired Zika cases — 35 of them — certain states have much higher counts of travel-associated cases than others.
Below are the nine states with the largest share of travel-associated Zika cases, as of Aug. 31.
1. New York — 625 cases (23 percent of travel-associated cases in the states)
2. Florida — 507 cases (19 percent)
3. California — 152 (6 percent)
4. Texas — 136 cases (5 percent)
5. New Jersey — 91 cases (3 percent)
6. Pennsylvania — 90 cases (3 percent)
7. Maryland — 85 cases (3 percent)
8. Virginia — 75 cases (3 percent)
9. Georgia — 69 cases (3 percent)
