The number of hospitals that received an "A" letter grade in The Leapfrog Group's Hospital Safety Score decreased from 782 in the spring to 773 this fall, but there are still several states that are home to many "A" hospitals.
The grades are calculated by top patient safety experts and are peer-reviewed and fully transparent to the public. Based on the Hospital Safety Scores report, Maine topped the list of states with the highest percentage of "A" hospitals for the fourth consecutive time.
