Seattle-based Virginia Mason Institute has signed a $13 million contract with England's National Health Service Trust Development Authority to help NHS hospitals improve safety and quality and control costs.
VMI is a nonprofit organization established in 2008 by Virginia Mason Health System to provide education and training to help other organizations improve quality, safety and value. VMI uses the Virginia Mason Production System, a management methodology similar to lean that was developed by Virginia Mason in 2002.
As part of the deal, VMI team members will travel to England to train healthcare professionals at five NHS hospital trusts. The contract is good for five years.
"Through focused education, training and executive and operational coaching, our approach to transformation prepares organizations to deliver safe, high-quality care efficiently and effectively by creating a culture characterized by innovation and motivation," said Diane Miller, executive director of VMI. "This enables organizations to solve problems and challenges they face today and are likely to face in the future."
