Urinary tract infection tests in children have varied accuracy, which may affect appropriate antibiotic prescription and increase costs of care, according to a study presented at the St. Jude/PIDS Pediatric Infectious Diseases Research Conference and covered by Healio.
Researchers stratified young test subjects by age and compared the efficacy of various UTI tests by age group. They found that while one test — nitrite — was similar across age groups, two other common tests varied in sensitivity.
