Little Rock, Ark.-based John L. McClellan Memorial Veteran Hospital is closing down its surgery unit from Aug. 14 to Aug. 16 to conduct staff training, according to The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette.
Several dozen surgeries have been postponed as a result of the closing. The surgeries will be rescheduled or provided at non-VA community facilities at the VA's expense, according to Chris Durney, the hospital's spokesperson.
"All surgical staff will engage in quality, safety and customer service training" during the unit's closure, Mr. Durney said. There was no particular incident that triggered the halt in surgeries, he added.
