Utah Infection Reporting Bill One Step Closer to Becoming Reality

A Utah Senate committee has endorsed a bill that would require all healthcare facilities to report infection rates to the state's Department of Health, according to a Salt Lake Tribune report.

Members of the Senate Health and Human Services Committee unanimously approved the measure yesterday.

The legislation, which is sponsored by Rep. Jack R. Draxler (R-Logan), would require hospitals, outpatient surgical facilities and dialysis centers to report data on bacterial, viral or fungal infections acquired by patients to the state Department of Health. The department would, in turn, publish and update the data annually.
