US now has 48 Ebola treatment centers

The U.S. healthcare worker who was exposed to the Ebola virus while in Sierra Leone was taken to Omaha-based Nebraska Medical Center Sunday, one of the 48 Ebola treatment centers in the country, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The CDC keeps a list of all the Ebola treatment centers in the U.S. and updates it weekly. Initially, there were just 35 Ebola treatment centers. Designated Ebola treatment centers have capabilities, training and resources to provide care to a person with Ebola with minimal risk to healthcare workers. Each hospital has been assessed on-site by a CDC Rapid Ebola Preparedness team. As of Jan. 8, there are now 48.
