US adds one more Ebola treatment center

Cleveland-based MetroHealth System has been designated as an Ebola treatment center by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, bringing the total number of designated Ebola treatment centers in the US to 49 as of Jan. 15.

MetroHealth System is the only facility in Ohio to earn this designation, which recognizes that MetroHealth can provide comprehensive care to a patient diagnosed with Ebola.

"When the Ebola scare occurred last fall, we actively worked to train our staff and educate the public," said Jennifer Hanrahan, DO, the chair of MetroHealth's Infection Control Committee. "This designation recognizes that we have the expertise and readiness needed to care for an Ebola patient."

Additionally, Cleveland Clinic and University Hospitals in Cleveland and MetroHealth have all signed an agreement to form a regional coalition for Ebola response, meaning they will work closely together to protect the community and meet the needs of Ebola patients.
