Omaha, Neb.-based University of Nebraska Medical Center and its clinical partner, Nebraska Medicine, now offer two free online courses to provide healthcare professionals and the public with instruction on how to deal with Ebola cases, according to a UNMC statement.
Based on UNMC and Nebraska Medicine expertise, the courses provide information and instruction through easy-to-understand videos and printable documents.
UNMC's Biocontainment Patient Care Unit is one of four biocontainment hospitals in the nation. Two Ebola patients, American Rick Sacra, MD, and NBC freelance cameraman Ashoka Mukpo, were successfully treated at the Nebraska unit.
"We have received many phone calls and emails from other health care organizations nationwide seeking guidance on our safety protocols and procedures," said Jeffrey Gold, MD, chancellor of UNMC and chairman of the Nebraska Medicine advisory board in the statement. "These courses will help clinicians and communities access the information they need at any time. We will continue to add to these courses as updates are needed."
Entitled "The Nebraska Method for Clinicians" and "The Nebraska Method for General Public," the two courses are available on Moodle and the iTunes U app.
