Univera Healthcare, a healthcare insurer based in Rochester, N.Y., has paid out approximately $21.4 million in incentive payments to 53 hospitals in the state that participate in its Hospital Performance Incentive Program.
Launched in 2004, the Hospital Performance Incentive Program program evaluates participating hospitals on more than 300 performance measures. Target outcomes are jointly agreed upon by each hospital and the health insurer using benchmarks established by the CMS, the Leapfrog Group, The Joint Commission, the Institute for Healthcare Improvement and others. The awardees received incentive payments based on achievements in four areas: clinical outcomes, patient safety, patient satisfaction and efficiency.
