A woman in the U.K. is thought to have contracted the Zika virus through sexual transmission, marking the first occurrence of such a case in the nation, according to a report from The Telegraph.
The woman's sexual partner reportedly traveled to a region experiencing local Zika transmission, though the report did not specify where. To date, there have been 265 cases of travel-associated Zika recorded in the U.K. Among the cases, 190 have been associated with travel to the Caribbean, 33 have been linked with travel to South America and two cases have been linked with travel to Florida, where local Zika transmission was first detected in the United States.
According a Wednesday update, the Florida Department of Health has tallied 1,219 cases of Zika in the state, 244 of which were due to local transmission.
On Monday, Texas state health officials announced the first case of Zika likely spread by local mosquitoes in the state.
