Parents of students in Tulsa, Okla., were notified Monday that an employee of the Darnaby Extended Day Program — an afterschool program for students enrolled in pre-k through the seventh grade — has been diagnosed with bacterial meningitis.
It is important to note that this particular case of meningitis is not the same type of meningitis associated with other highly publicized cases of infection, according to the Tulsa County Health Department notification.
The contacts of the employee at risk of contracting meningitis, such as family members, have not required treatment thus far.
As an added measure of precaution, the custodial staff reportedly dedicated extra time to cleaning and sanitizing the facility on Monday.
