If you work in healthcare, chances are you are familiar with the U.S. Institute of Medicine's landmark report, "To Err is Human: Building a Safer Health System." The report has inspired the name of a new documentary announced by Tall Tale Productions on patient safety, healthcare-associated infections and medical errors.
The documentary — "To Err is Human" — will be directed by Mike Eisenberg, son of the international patient safety expert John M. Eisenberg, MD. Before his death in 2002, Dr. Eisenberg served as director of the U.S Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality and authored more than 150 articles on evidence-based decision-making, how payment affects healthcare quality and improving working conditions for healthcare providers.
After studying his late father's work, Mr. Eisenberg was inspired to create the documentary to educate the American public and re-energize the national discussion on the patient safety crisis. The film will feature hard statistics, interviews with experts and the stories of patients and families directly impacted by a medical error.
To finish the documentary, Tall Tale productions has launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise $125,000 by March 10. As of Feb. 17, the campaign had raised nearly $23,000. The production team is offering a variety of perks and rewards to those who contribute to the project.
