The Joint Commission has issued revisions to elements of performance in the hospital manual and the critical access hospital manual to maintain alignment with CMS' conditions of participation.
The revised deeming requirements include a note regarding the structure of medical staff and a revision of the timing requirement for reporting medication errors, adverse drug events and medication incompatibilities.
Revisions in the critical access hospital manual include the two changes for the hospital manual in addition to the elimination of the requirement for emergency services and outpatient services to be provided "as direct services" by the critical access hospital.
The revisions are effective immediately.
