The Joint Commission releases compendium of VTE care resources

The Joint Commission released a new compendium of resources focused on venous thromboembolism patients. The compendium contains links to more than 70 publicly available online resources.

Venous thromboembolism, or VTE, affects around 300,000 to 600,000 Americans each year, according to the American Heart Association. Patients discharged following VTE treatment require comprehensive education and discharge instructions.

The compendium offers both patient education materials as well as discharge materials for VTE patients discharged on anticoagulants. Healthcare organizations and providers can use the resources to customize the materials.

A panel of eight clinicians reviewed the compendium. It was developed as part of an 18-month research project, funded by Bristol Myers-Squibb/Pfizer.
