The Joint Commission selected Sylvia Garcia-Houchins, RN, to serve as director of infection prevention and control in its healthcare improvement division.
Ms. Garcia-Houchins most recently served as the director of infection control at the University of Chicago Medicine. She was also an intermittent consultant for Joint Commission Resources. Additionally, she was a test writer and reviewer for the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology.
In her new role at The Joint Commission, she will be responsible for developing and implementing infection prevention and control initiatives.
Ms. Garcia-Houchins holds an MBA from the Keller Graduate School of Management in Chicago, in addition to her nursing degree.
