MedStar Mobile Healthcare, a Fort Worth, Texas-based emergency medical services provider, is rolling out an on-site flu vaccine clinic program, reports the Star-Telegram.
The program allows groups of 10 or more people to schedule an appointment for MedStar to administer flu shots at a preferred location.
MedStar spokesperson Matt Zavadsky said the program aims to reduce the amount of flu patients who call 911 and require hospitalization. The company received more than 1,100 flu-related emergency calls during the 2017-18 flu season, sometimes up to 20 a day, according to Mr. Zavadsky.
"The [emergency rooms] were packed, which impacted us," he told the Star-Telegram. "It left less ambulances on the streets to respond to other calls."
The CDC is urging everyone ages 6 months and up to receive a flu vaccine by the end of October.
