The Infectious Diseases Society of America named Thomas M. File, Jr., MD, president.
Dr. File is chair of the infectious disease division and co-director of the antimicrobial stewardship program at Summa Health in Akron, Ohio. He is also a professor of medicine, master teacher and chair of the infectious disease section at Northeast Ohio Medical University in Rootstown.
He has been an active member of the society, serving on several committees. He was chair of the practice guidelines committee from 2005 to 2008 and a member of the society's board from 2008 to 2011.
In 2013, Dr. File received the Watanakunakorn Clinician Award from the society.
As president, Dr. File said he plans to expand the society's antimicrobial stewardship centers of excellence program, strengthen its relationships with state and regional infectious disease societies and support infectious disease physicians.
