Study: Risk Awareness Doesn't Increase Healthcare Workers' Flu Shot Rates

Educational interventions on the risks of influenza do not increase vaccination coverage among heathcare workers in hospital settings, according to a study published in the American Journal of Infection Control.

Researchers supplied surveys to a random sample of healthcare workers during a 2010 to 2011 influenza education campaign both before and after the workers received information about the risks associated with influenza.

Survey analysis after the campaign's conclusion showed that while workers perceived a greater risk attached to influenza, they were no more likely to receive a vaccine for the virus than they were before the educational sessions.
