Seven facilities have achieved a 97 percent average reduction in catheter-associated urinary tract infections or a zero percent CAUTI rate after nearly two years of participation in healthcare and surgical product distributor Medline's ERASE CAUTI program.
The seven facilities include:
- Orange Regional Medical Center (Middletown, N.J.)
- Onslow Memorial Hospital (Jacksonville, N.C.)
- Stephens County Hospital (Toccoa, Ga.)
- Kindred Hospital Albuquerque (N.M.)
- Harrison Memorial Hospital (Cythiana, Ky.)
- Wabash (Ind.) County Hospital
- Memorial Hospital-Converse County (Douglas, Wyo.)
The program includes use of a catheter tray labeled to help nurses adhere specifically to catheter handling guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. It also includes a checklist for assessing the appropriateness of catheterization for each individual patient.
The average CAUTI rate reduction has been 80 percent in the ERASE CAUTI program, according to a news release.
