Workplace relationships in clinical settings have an effect on the quality of patient care and patient satisfaction, according to a study published in The Annals of Family Medicine.
The study tested an assessment tool, the Work Relationships Scale, in 17 Veterans Affairs primary care clinics, examining characteristics of workplace relationships in conjunction with patient quality ratings for both individual providers and overall care.
Clinics in which providers had weaker interpersonal relationships scored lower on the WRS and received poorer patient quality ratings. The study concluded relationships should be considered as part of internal quality assessments in healthcare institutions.
