An inflammation of the colon associated with C. difficile — C. difficile colitis — has increased nearly 50 percent from 2001-2005 to 2006-2010, according to a study in the Journal of the American College of Surgeons.
An analysis of the Nationwide Inpatient Sample 2001 to 2010 also found that colectomies increased 32 percent in the same time frame.
