Southern Illinois University Carbondale is offering an online course focused on healthcare risk management and patient safety, developed for healthcare professionals or people interested in the healthcare field.
The 12-week, noncredit program is self-managed and comprised of four separate, three-week modules. SIU tapped two licensed healthcare risk managers — Les Jebson, an SIU School of Medicine administrator and lecturer, and Paul Acedera, a visiting assistant professor with SIU Carbondale's Extended Campus — to instruct the program.
Areas that will be covered in the program include:
- Organization healthcare risk management principles
- Financial implications surrounding healthcare risk management
- Understanding claims process and management
- National regulations and statutes
- Organization safety principles
- Correlations between patient safety and healthcare risk management
- Organizational safety programs
The program, which can help fulfill professional development requirements, costs $349. Those interested in learning more or registering may contact SIU's Extended Campus at 618-453-3430.
