The Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee has approved the Pharmaceutical Compounding Quality and Accountability Act, which keeps traditional compounding pharmacies under state pharmacy board oversight but moves "compounding manufacturers" that sell sterile products over state lines under FDA oversight.
The legislation also includes "track and trace" legislation, requiring unit-level electronic tracking of products for 10 years.
Health systems that engage in sterile compounding would still be regulated by state pharmacy boards even if state lines are crossed.
