Salmonella sickens 33 patients at Pennsylvania healthcare facilities

Thirty-three patients contracted salmonella, likely after eating contaminated fruit, at several healthcare facilities in southeastern Pennsylvania, reports The Philadelphia Inquirer.

State health officials did not disclose the facilities' names but said salmonella cases occurred at two hospitals and two nursing homes.

All cases were reported in early December, except for one that occurred Nov. 27.

The FDA has potentially linked a precut fruit mix distributed by Tailor Cut Produce to the illnesses. The healthcare facilities have since discarded this fruit and are working with health officials to investigate the salmonella infections.
