Health officials are investigating an outbreak of a rare gonorrhea infection in Michigan.
The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services reported five confirmed disseminated gonococcal infections and one possible case Aug. 23.
Infected individuals range from ages 20 to 55 and live in three different counties in south central Michigan.
DGI occurs after a sexually acquired gonorrhea infection and often requires hospitalization. Symptoms include fever, chills and joint pain, along with infections in joints or internal organs.
