Hospital participation in Premier healthcare alliance's second QUEST: High Performing Hospitals collaborative has increased 87 percent, from 157 hospitals to 293 hospitals in approximately three years.
Through this collaborative, participating hospitals work together to share, compare and improve their performance on a variety of measures, including mortality rates, costs of care and the patient experience.
Most recently, the hospitals are being challenged to measure and improve performance on readmissions. The goal is to reduce all-cause 30-day readmission rates to just 8 percent. National estimates suggest that most hospitals have readmission rates ranging from 18-25 percent, depending on the clinical condition.
