From 2012 to 2013, the healthcare facility members in Charlotte, N.C.-based Premier's Hospital Engagement Network avoided more than 35,600 readmissions and saved nearly $313 million, according to a company news release.
Premier's HEN includes more than 400 hospitals in 50 health systems, making it the second largest network working with CMS' Partnership for Patients Initiative.
According to the news release, more than 75 percent of member facilities in Premier's HEN met or exceeded the goal of reducing stage III and IV pressure ulcers.
Additionally, 150 participants reduced central line-associated bloodstream infections by 33 percent, nearly 100 participants reduced obstetrical trauma of vaginal deliveries without tools by nearly 30 percent and approximately half reduced patient falls by 25 percent.
"This is an example of what scale can mean to performance improvement in healthcare," said Wes Champion, senior vice president of Premier Performance Partners, in the news release. "It requires a lot of trust, focus and commitment to achieve this type of improvement across such a large group of hospitals. We couldn't be happier to see what they are accomplishing and look forward to the final results."
