The Sacramento-based University of California Davis Health System has confirmed a patient at the UC Medical Center is being tested for Ebola.
Hospital officials maintain the patient — who is in good condition — poses no risk to the public or medical center patients. Several highly-trained members of the UC Davis staff volunteered to treat the individual, according to a USA Today report.
UC Davis announced their physicians are in contact with the county, state and federal health officials regarding the patient and will update the officials as soon as there is news. The patient's Ebola test results are still pending and may take 48 hours to confirm, according to the report.
The individual was original treated at Mercy General Hospital, also in Sacramento, but was transferred to UC Davis — one of only eight Ebola treatment centers in the state and one of 48 in the country — Thursday morning, according to the USA Today.
Mercy General Hospital closed its emergency department briefly after the patient was transferred to ensure it was thoroughly cleaned although the rest of the building remained open.
