Denver-based Porter Adventist Hospital plans to reopen its transplant program by early fall, reports The Denver Post.
Spokesperson Joel Malecka said Porter Adventist is in the final stages of rebuilding its transplant program, which offers kidney, pancreas and liver transplants. The hospital has hired more than 20 new employees to staff the program, including surgeons.
"In addition to a highly specialized medical expertise, we combined a cultural element that further refined the requisite qualification to join our team," Mr. Malecka said in a statement cited by The Denver Post. "While this process has taken longer than we anticipated, we are excited to be fully staffed and are in the final stages of opening our program."
Porter Adventist voluntarily suspended the program last June after several experienced staff members left and the hospital had trouble replacing them.
