Phoebe Hospital, part of Albany, Ga.-based Phoebe Putney Health System, created a patient safety index that allows hospital leaders to measure care quality, according to WFXL.
When calculating scores on the patient index, the hospital considers six factors: urinary tract infections, bloodstream infections, other infections, fall injuries, medication errors and bedsores.
The hospital saw the most significant improvement in bedsores, which recently dropped by over 80 percent.
Steven Kitchen, MD, CMO at Phoebe, told WFXL that fall risk is likely the most preventable factor. Fall injuries have dropped by 30 percent, and Dr. Kitchen expects the number of accidents to continue to drop.
Phoebe plans to make this an ongoing initiative so patients can get the best care possible, Dr. Kitchen said.
