Wolters Kluwer, a provider of healthcare information and solutions, has released an e-book that outlines how electronic surveillance systems enable hospitals to leverage their patient data to quickly identify emerging infections and high-risk patients.
Without some kind of electronic surveillance system to provide an automated, algorithmic approach to real-time identification of hospital-acquired infections, meeting federal and state-based reporting mandates will become increasingly difficult.
The Wolters Kluwer's guide — called "Turning Data into Action for Automated Proactive HAI Surveillance" — documents the cost savings and care improvements realized by hospitals that implement automated surveillance systems. It also aims to show providers:
- The advantages of an infection prevention program supported by electronic surveillance
- The ways electronic surveillance provides critical support to IP programs
- How the Sentri7 clinical surveillance and decision support solution brings data and clinical expertise to bear on infection prevention and control initiatives; and
- How to improve outcomes in the face of regulatory and financial pressure
"The significant increase in reporting requirements means it is now imperative that hospitals and healthcare networks implement the most accurate infection prevention programs available," said Leo Barbaro, vice president and general manager of clinical terminologies and surveillance for Wolters Kluwer Health, Clinical Solutions. "We intend for this e-book to serve as a best practice tool for implementation of the most accurate and efficient infection prevention programs across the healthcare continuum."
